CONFLICT: BASIC CONCEPT The word conflict has been derived from the Latin word ‘Confligere’; which means to Strike or attack altogether. In the present world, there are conflicts found everywhere. Each conflict has a reason behind it. these conflicts usually occur when two or more individuals or groups feel they have irreconcilable differences, or they feel that there needs, interests or wants are threatened by the existence of the other groups demands. Hence clashes become inevitable. People all over the world, have different perspectives on life, and its problems, depending upon the environment, in which they have lived. CLASSIFICATION Latent Conflict – Conflicts exist but are not expressed. Overt Conflict – Conflicts are†¦show more content†¦2) To promote greater tolerance and acceptance of diversity in the community. †¢ Human Needs Theory: 1) To assist conflicting parties to identify share their unmet needs, and generate options for meeting those needs. 2) For the parties to reach agreement that meet basic Human needs of all the sides. †¢ Identity Theory: 1) Through facilitated workshops and dialogue for conflicting parties to identify threats and fears they each feel to build empathy reconciliation within themselves. 2) To jointly reach agreements that recognize the core- identity needs of all parties. †¢ Inter-cultural Miscommunication Theory: 1) To increase the conflicting parties knowledge for each other’s culture. 2) To weaken negative stereotypes they have of each other ultimately to enhance effective inter- cultural communication. REVIEW Unmet needs would always place high demands and higher damages in any conflict. They are basically for economic resources, or the perception that resources have not been distributed fairly. They may also include unmet needs for Safety, Respect Participation.
